Village in the City: Mount Pleasant Heritage Trail

Follow the downloadable map of our self-guided neighborhood Heritage Trail to learn more about Mount Pleasant, a neighborhood celebrated for its cultural diversity, charming streets, art, and activism.  We gratefully thank D.C. Cultural Tourism for their leadership in the production and marketing of the trail and our neighbor Mara Cherkasky for overseeing the majority of the research.  Many thanks to all of the neighbors and former residents or business owners who contributed to the research and the planning committee!

Recalling History: The Mount Pleasant Art on Call Sculptures:
Take friends and family on a walking tour of Mount Pleasant viewing nine bronze sculptures housed inside Mount Pleasant’s historic fire and police callboxes

Art on Call is a citywide effort, overseen by Cultural Tourism DC, to restore abandoned fire and police call boxes and transform them into neighborhood icons combining art and heritage. Mount Pleasant was the very first neighborhood to complete the Art on Call Trail.  Placed inside nine call boxes, artist Michael K. Ross’s bronze sculptures tell the story of Mount Pleasant – from early Native Americans to today’s multicultural neighborhood.
